Safety Instructions for the Mei Tai
Ensure adequate breathing
Preventing proper air flow to the baby may cause suffocation and/or death. Check your baby frequently while wearing your mei tai to ensure proper positioning and keep objects and material away from baby’s face to ensure a clear source of air. Be careful not to allow your newborn's chin to rest on his or her chest as it can restrict breathing. Make sure your newborn baby is upright in the mei tai with the ties crossed across his back. Do not wear a newborn on your back.
Avoid all hazardous activities
Do not carry your baby in the mei tai while doing any of the following activites: cooking, running, bicycling, jumping, being close to or working with fire or chemicals, eating or drinking hot foods and beverages. Do not participate in any kind of sports while carrying your baby in a mei tai. The mei tai is not a substitute for a government approved carseat or a bicycle seat. Under no circumstances should you carry your baby in a mei tai in a car or on a bicycle. Do not drive any kind of motorized vehicle while wearing your baby in the mei tai. Do not bend from the waist down when wearing your baby in a mei tai. Always bend from the knees to keep your baby in a stable position. Be careful when turning corners or walking through narrow spaces. Always hold onto your child when bending over or moving quickly, you do not want him or her falling out of the mei tai or pouch. Be aware of potentially dangerous objects being within reach of your baby or toddler's hands. Do not put any objects into the mei tai except your baby
Use the recommended positions for your baby's age and development:

Use the mei tai only if your own health allows it
Your mei tai is intended for use by adults with no health issues that could make babywearing harmful to their health. Adults suffering from back, shoulder, and/or neck pain should not use the mei tai. Mothers should speak with their physician about when it is safe to use a mei tai after a Caesarian birth.
Use common sense
Use common sense when carrying your child in the bumbaumel mei tai. As with all baby carriers, you must always be aware that your baby can climb or fall out.. Do not use the mei tai with an uncooperative child. Always keep one hand on your child for safety until you are very comfortable using the mei tai. Before each use make sure that the fabric and seams are in good condition. If there are areas that look worn or frayed do not use it. If it is not in good condition we can no longer assure the integrity of the mei tai..
