Baby Sling FAQ

My sling has gotten too loose! What can I do?

This is nothing a good wash in the machine at 40 degrees C won't fix. Then toss it into the dryer and your sling will be one size smaller.

Are baby slings safe for my newborn?

Yes, they are when used correctly. Please read our safety instructions and keep them in mind at all times.

Your slings are not adjustable! That is lame. Why not?

We make simple, easy to use baby carriers that do not need to be adjusted. Once properly fit, a sling will be comfortable to use from the birth of a new baby up to 2 years of age. There is no need to adjust it, since as the baby grows big, the sling needs to fit tighter.

Adjustable slings always have some sort of mechanism that makes them complicated to use: snaps, zippers, rings, clips etc. This means there is always something that has to be snapped, zipped, clipped or pulled through a ring. They are bulky, not easily folded and tucked in a purse, nor are they reversible. This is why we make our slings the way we do.

Why don't your slings have rings on them?

We don't think that ring slings are very useful for most parents, which is why we do not make them.

My baby screams whenever I put her in the sling. What should I do?

Some babies need some time to get used to the idea of being carried. And if you feel unsure about how to use your sling, your baby may pick up on it and feel unsure, too. We suggest you practice with a doll or a teddy bear until you are sure what you need to do. Then choose a time when your baby is happy and not hungry and pop her in. If she still cries try walking around with her a bit, gently jiggling her up and down. This usually calms most babies. If she continues crying for 10 minutes it is best to take her out and try again the next day. With time, she will get used to it. Think of all of the millions of babies in South America and Africa that are carried every day in a sling and don't cry! It is all a matter of getting baby used to being carried.

Is it ok to let my baby sleep in the sling?

Sure. There is no better place for your baby to sleep than right up against your tummy. Just make sure that his face is turned so that he can breathe properly.

My newborn baby sinks down too deep in the sling. What should I do?

It may be necessary to roll or fold a small cloth and place it underneath your baby in the sling. Just make sure that she isn't too high. Her arms and legs should be beneath the rim of the sling.

Can I carry my 2-year old in a sling?

Our slings have been designed to carry at least 15kg, so you should have no problem with an infant in the sling. It is quite useful when you simply need to carry your child a short distance, for example from the car to the house.

Does my sling fit? I am not sure.

A proper fit is always important when wearing your baby in a sling. If the baby is sinking down below your waist then the sling is probably too large. Try flipping the upper part of the sling on your shoulder in the other direction to make it a bit tighter. You will notice right away if a sling is too small. It will feel too tight without the baby in it and there will be no room to open it and put the baby in. A good fitting sling can be snug or a bit looser, depending on what is comfortable for you and your baby.

Interestingly enough, the larger your baby gets the smaller the sling needs to be. This is because larger babies need to be held snugly in a hip or front carry  it is uncomfortable for everyone if the sling is too loose. If you keep losing those pregnancy pounds as the baby gets larger then you can easily wear the same size sling the whole time.

How do I pick the right size sling?

Please read about Sling Sizing.

How do I wash my sling?

We recommend washing your sling on a gentle cycle at 30 degrees. Please do not put your sling in the dryer. You may find that the sling feels slightly tighter after washing, but after wearing it a few times it should return to its original size.

Can I carry my newborn baby in a sling?

Yes. The best position for a newborn is the cradle carry, since it keeps your baby in the same position that she would be in in your arms.
